Ascona, often referred to as the “Pearl of Lake Maggiore,” is internationally renowned as a holiday destination of exceptional cultural distinction. It lies at the mouth of the Maggia River, in a unique, sun-drenched bay. Its privileged location amid a diverse landscape, its southern climate, its long-standing tradition of tourism, and its inhabitants’ strong sense of hospitality provide ideal conditions for holidays and relaxation, establishing Ascona’s reputation as a truly enchanting resort. This historic town is also notable for its rich cultural and artistic heritage, with numerous reminders of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. There are many traces of artists who lived in Ascona from the 17th century onwards, most strikingly represented by the unique Baroque façade of Casa Serodine. Yet it was at the turn of the 20th century that a group of people from the north arrived in search of a life closer to nature and settled on the hill above Ascona, which they called Monte Verità, the “Mountain of Truth.”
